On an island of haves and have-nots, teenager John B. recruits his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure related to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madeline Klein, and their "OBX" co-stars ask each other for the best lines from their popular Netflix series.. It was filmed on location in Charleston, South Carolina; it was originally supposed to be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He doesn’t even look like a 16-year-old
I like this show, but it can be very frustrating to watch at times. The acting is decent, but as many others have already pointed out, the casting is a bit ridiculous. The lead actor who plays a 16-year-old is almost 30. All the actors who play teenagers are too old for the roles they’re given, and it kind of ruins the immersion for me.
But that’s hardly the main problem
Is it really that hard to find decent actors who at least look the age of the role they’re playing? The high-level story is good, but the details are where this show falls apart. All the drama and tension is created by characters doing stupid things. The stupidity ranges from mild to incredibly dense, but it’s always what drives the drama.
And it’s not just teenagers who are stupid
It’s hard to find characters to like when they’re constantly doing stupid things and never learning or growing up. None of the cops follow procedure, because if they did, the story wouldn’t happen. Every time a character does something smart, it has to be ruined by someone doing something incredibly stupid, because again, then the story wouldn’t happen. I wish the writers had spent a little more time trying to think of different ways to move the story forward, maybe by making the antagonists smart instead of the characters stupid.
I’ve now finished season 2 and I don’t regret watching it
