This is an excellent coming-of-age story reminiscent of “Wild Diamond”. but even better executed in my opinion. We follow the life of Bailey, a 12-year-old girl living in the slums of the UK. It’s clear from the start that Bailey perceives the world differently than those around her. Nature, animals and especially birds symbolize freedom and lightness, a feeling that can be experienced vividly. Bailey meets Bird, a character who embodies the person she wants to become. She teases Bird at first, but eventually her teasing turns to admiration. Bailey faces many challenges, and Bird gently guides her toward a solution. Some questions remain unanswered, but the specific answers aren’t important to me. The journey and growth Bailey experiences is what really matters.
