This is Michel Hazanavicius' first animated film
Line of Events
In times of war, a poor woodcutter and his wife live in a large forest. One day, a woman finds and saves a little girl, causing an irrevocable change in the lives of the couple and those on whose path the little girl crosses.
It tells a story set in Poland during World War II, almost like a folk tale
This is the best release of 2024 that I have seen this year so far and we are in mid-December 2024. Most of the action takes place in the forest, typical of the folk tales mentioned above, where a couple of woodcutters adopt a Jewish girl who was thrown from a deportation train that was passing through their forest.
Even from a technical point of view everything is done to perfection
Her father threw her to the ground to save her from certain death in Auschwitz. I will not go into the details of the plot so you can see it for yourself, I just want to add that the film comes to a deeply philosophical conclusion.
The visuals of the film are excellent
The drawing style is just right, not too detailed or too rough, it mainly depicts scenes in low light with dominant shades of gray, emphasizing the horrors of war and the most infamous mass slaughter in human history. And then the soundtrack, which is sublime: the soundtrack, the sound effects, the narration and the voice acting (I saw the original version in French), all perfectly suited to the presentation of this gem of a film.
