So I actually read the book, the real book(s), not the watered down version you find in the bookstore. While this movie is perfectly okay, it has none of that, except for the outline of the main plot.

There is no good and bad, no ambiguous ending and basis for everything, the relationship between Abe and Edmond, who actually becomes a son. Also missing is the backstory from the escape to Edmond’s arrival in Paris, which makes the whole revenge plot believable.

Villefort, whose story, although peripheral, is so central to who Edmond really is as a person. So you want to see a French drama set in the 19th century that is quite good with good actors, come on.
