Perry was so impressed that he even helped develop the remix
Line of Events
In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government deeds. Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey, has revealed that Stranger Things Season 4’s remix of Journey’s 1980s hit Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) was done pretty much the way he originally wanted it done in the 1980s, but lacked the technology. Someone is talking over a two-way radio, or CB – that is, one person is talking/transmitting, and another person is transmitting to interrupt them, and then the other person hears that interruption and stops transmitting.
Eleven: Friends Don’t Lie
This happened a few times with the kids’ CB radios and with the radios used by the police. Those radios – the CB and police radio of the time from the show – don’t work that way. Stranger Things’ opening titles and fonts mimic the grain and look of the 1980s television series’ opening credits.

Stranger Things (Title Sequence and End Credits Theme)Written & performed by Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein. Story-wise, there’s no reason for Stranger Things to be set in the ’80s. But the ’80s vibe – the rotary phones, the chain smoking, Winona Ryder – gives you clues as to the inspiration for this film, which is pretty much any kid-focused supernatural film from the ’80s.
ET, Poltergeist, that sort of thing
What’s amazing is how spot-on this tribute is. Not just the clothes and hair, but the acting style, script approach and structure all stay true to their inspiration. There’s the young, nerdy kids, the horny, insecure teenagers, the monster, the mysterious guy with powers, the bad scientists/government people, the conflicted investigator, the whiny mother, just a pastiche of recycled elements, And I wouldn’t disagree, but it really feels less like a carbon copy and more like something from that era, as if the writers had fallen into a coma in 1985, woke up, and got to work.
The story is consistently engaging and entertaining, the acting is excellent, and the film has enough laughs and tears to satisfy
